FAQ's

IEC is a ten-digit number given by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade below the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to any bonafide body/ company for offering out import/export. An IEC is required to obtain before you begin an Import or Export of goods. In the state of Import/Export of Services/Technology, IEC is only needed in Defined Services/ Specified Technology. These Defined Services/ Technology introduces that trade which is surrounded by the Government of India as they concern to National Security, such as dealings in nuclear weapons, automatic guns, etc.
The exemptions are 1. Import/ Export of Goods/ services for Personal Consumption. 2. Import/ Export of Goods/ services through Government ministries and departments, and several published Charitable Institutions.
 
 
The procedure is: a. An application must be made in Aayaat Niryaat Form 2A (ANF 2A) format to the regional authority of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade(DGFT) in the region where the registered office of the Company is situated. b. Applicant seeking modification in their IEC will be required to submit all documents as required in e-IEC. The requisite documents are as listed at List of documents required to be uploaded along with the application form. Further, in cases where applicant is opting for option Modify your e-IEC, the applicant is required to submit only that document which is corresponding to the change required by him.
