FAQ's

The responsibility to receive a registration lies with the owner of the business or service. The business owner/employer is needed to subtract the professional tax based on the professional tax part from the salaries of employees and meet the same to Government before the 15th day of every month or quarter as appropriate.
 
Also recognized as the Professional Tax Enrolment Certificate (PTEC), this registration is received for the payment of taxes by the employers.
 
 
The employers are needed to obtain the registration when employees are designated. This makes the employees available to decrease the professional tax from their employee’s salaries. Registration should be received within 30 days of employing staff.
 
 
 
The State Governments of the following states have levied professional tax: Punjab, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Orissa, Sikkim, Kerala, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh.
 
 
 
 
The highest amount payable per annum towards the professional tax is ₹ 2,500. The professional tax is normally a slab-amount based on the gross income of the professional. It is subtracted from the employee’s income each month.

For delays in getting a Registration Certificate, a fine of Rs5/- per day is levied. In case of non/late payment of professional tax, the fine will amount to 10% of the amount of tax. In event of late filing of returns, a fine of ₹ 300 per return will be taxed.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The scheduled date for the payment of Profession Tax is 30th June for the employees recruited before 31st May of the year. The people filed after 31st May of a year are asked to pay Profession Tax within one month from the date of registration.
